Karen Kaplen

Karen Kaplen is a Peer Support worker with the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society. For over 18 years she has facilitated support groups for people living with a mental illness. She has a unique gift of humility, compassion, and making others feel special. Her core belief is that we should treat all people the way we would like to be treated.

In April 2016, she received the Women Helping Women award from Soroptimist International of Winnipeg and was the keynote speaker at the 2016 Soroptimist of Winnipeg presentation. On February 7, 2020, Karen was honoured as a caregiver of people living with mental illness and was recognized by friends, family, and co-workers at a surprise luncheon hosted by Ify Chiwetelu and Trevor Dineen of CBC Radio’s Now or Never program.

Karen is available as a keynote speaker and for workshops on topics such as: Supporting People Living with a Mental Illness, The Importance of Using Appropriate Language in Mental Health, and We’re All People First.
